SENSATIONAL BRATT NARROWLY MISSES TOP SPOT AT GP2 TEST
GP2 rookie Will Bratt produced a truly phenomenal performance on only his second ever run in one of David Price Racing's cars at Paul Ricard in France on Tuesday, 11th November, and is now in talks with the British team regarding a full-time drive in the Formula One support championship in 2009.
The under-rated 20-year-old racer, who lives in Banbury, Oxon, ended Tuesday's outing with the second fastest time of 1m 15.749 seconds, a scintillating effort which saw him outperform a whole host of very experienced GP2 competitors. In fact, Will was unfortunate not to end the test quickest of all!
Will, who finished sixth overall in this season's FIAT Spanish Formula 3 Championship, is 100 per cent committed to making the step-up to GP2 next year and is in the process of putting together a package of support to finance his maiden season. He's proven he has the ability and speed, now he just needs the opportunity and backing.
"GP2 is the only place I want to be in 2009", said Will, "Finishing second fastest during the test was great and I know I can be a consistent front-runner in GP2. I've proven I've got the pace and the ability and now I want to capitalise on that. Given the backing and support of investors and/or a manufacturer programme, I know I can win in GP2."
Running strongly inside the top six during the wet morning session, Will was a constant presence with blinding speed and tremendous car control, far belying his minimal experience at international level. His outstanding front-running consistency was then rewarded with the second fastest time during the afternoon.
Will added: "I felt very comfortable indeed in the DPR car, the team has been fantastic to work with and I want to thank David Price for enabling me to show what I can achieve at this level. We're going all out to secure a GP2 drive for 2009."
Throughout his three-season tenure in Formula Renault UK between 2005 and 2007, Will's incredible performances with the fledgling Apotex Scorpio Motorsport team were often over-looked but he became a multiple race winner and serious title contender.
Acknowledged by the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) as one of its 'Rising Stars', Will is determined to make his test performances at the wheel of a GP2 car go a long way to ensuring he can attract the required backing and investment for a full season in the F1 feeder series in 2009 ahead of a potential graduation to Formula One itself.
DPR in serious talks with Bratt regarding GP2 Asia race outing DPR team principal David Price has confirmed his squad is in serious negotiations with Will regarding a race drive in the 2009 GP2 Series but he is also keen to secure the services of the Oxon star for at least one outing in the current GP2 Asia Series.
"The whole team is absolutely delighted with the performance Will produced at Paul Ricard, to end the day second fastest was a fantastic effort and he clearly has a lot of ability", said Price, "The team did a good job and Will was very professional.
"We're very keen to talk to Will about filling one of our race seats in 2009, we held conversations after his first test with us and we're even more focused on trying to get a package together with him now following yesterday's run. It would be great to get him in a DPR car for a couple of GP2 Asia races as well -- we'll see what happens."
With the right backing and support, Will Bratt can be a success in GP2 and beyond so for more information about his career and the opportunities open to potential investors, please visit the official website.
