King, 22, has signed with Dutch outfit MP Motorsport, where he will partner Brazilian driver Sergio Sette Camara.

The upcoming season will mark King's third GP2 campaign, the Briton having contested his first two seasons in the series with Racing Engineering.

He finished 12th the first time of asking, and was up to seventh overall last year, taking two sprint race wins along the way.

The Briton has previous history with the Dutch MP outfit, having raced for the Manor MP Motorsport tie-up in Formula Renault 2.0. He finished runner-up in the NEC category to compatriot Jake Dennis in 2012.

"I’m really looking forward to racing with MP Motorsport for the 2017 season," King said. "I’ve known the team a long time and worked with them straight out of karting, so in a way it’s a bit of a homecoming for me.

"One of the biggest reasons for me to join them was the level of trust that comes with such a longstanding relationship.

“Working with the team at the test was also a key factor in my decision. There is a great working relationship there with everyone in the team always working hard for you, but with a smile on their faces. I know they will always do the best job they possibly can.

“Coming into my third year I’ve never been in a better place physically and mentally and I’m aiming to improve on my strong season last year."

Regarded earlier as a potential candidate for a Manor seat in 2017, King now appears a free agent as the British team entered administration in the off-season and was unsuccessful in finding a buyer to continue competing.

Having run in two F1 grand prix practice sessions late last year, he took part in the post-season GP2 test at Yas Marina, trying out Russian Time and MP.

The Dutch outfit has been part of GP2 since 2013 and had its best season last year, finishing seventh in the teams' standings.

Its sole win in the category, however, dates back to 2014, courtesy of former Lotus junior Marco Sorensen.
