Raffaele Marciello took part in the three days of group tests organised by the GP2 Series in the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. The Italian driver, at his very debut on the Dallara GP2/11, has once again amazed the officials being immediately very very fast!
He was on track the first two days at the wheel of the Trident Racing’s car, the Ferrari Driver Academy’s bearer immediately impressed everybody by conquering the first absolute position in the inaugural day, thanks to the excellent timing marked in 1:49.811.The great job Lello did went on also in the following days: the good feeling with the car, with the track and the team allowed him to place once again in the lead, ending Wednesday morning ahead of all the rivals and the afternoon session in third position with 1:49.411.
The last day of work, Marciello was indeed in the Racing Engineering’s Dallara, still being at the top despite of the team change and he completed the group tests in fourth place overall marking, as expected, his best time in 1:49.052.
Many kilometers done. The current FIA Formula 3 European Championship champion left the track in the Emirates with great satisfaction, very happy of the work done and the results he achieved.
Raffaele Marciello: “That was a very busy three days of testing, which meant I was able to gather a lot of information that we can now study calmly back in Maranello. My first acquaintance with a GP2 car was great and I immediately felt at ease in the car and also with the tyres.
I had studied the track as much as possible, looking at a lot of videos and it proved to be worthwhile, given that I adapted very quickly, finding the right reference points in just a few laps.
I didn’t have any problems on new tyres, the feeling was there immediately and the times came quite naturally. It was a bit harder to manage the used tyres, but we didn’t do a genuine race simulation.
On the final day, I initially had a few problems with understeer, but in the afternoon session the driveability of the car improved and I managed to end the test with a good time”.
