November 15, 1999 (Roseville, CA) - Sean Woodside and Bill McAnally Racing have prepared for this Saturday's Coca-Cola 500 at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan as much, if not more, than for any race this season.
Even though the team is leading the 1999 NASCAR Winston West championship race by 109 points, the championship has yet to be decided and McAnally Racing must perform well at Twin Ring in order to clinch the championship.
"Preparation is key in this race, and will give the team a little extra confidence that they'll be able to do a great job," said team owner Bill McAnally. "We've gone over everything carefully, and have packed everything that we could possibly need. We're prepared with plenty of extra parts and supplies for the car, and will be able to repair almost any problem that could come up. The team has been working on its pit stops to make them as fast and smooth as possible. We have good equipment, a great driver and a great team, and we're going to do everything we can to bring home a championship for NAPA."
McAnally Racing participated in last year's exhibition race at Twin Ring, and ran competitively against a field of NASCAR Winston West, Truck and Winston Cup teams.
"We're planning to run a clean, strong race," Woodside commented. "A win would be great, but we will definitely be focused on the championship. If we race to win, the points will fall into place." Woodside finished second in both the 1997 and 1998 Winston West championship races. The Coca-Cola 500 is scheduled to air in the United States on Saturday, December 11 beginning at 3 p.m. EST, and will be telecast live in Japan by Fuji Television.
Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) owns and operates the No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts/Martin Senour Automotive Finishes/NAPA Filters/California Integrated Waste Management Recycled Oil Program Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR Winston West team with Sean Woodside as driver. They are leading the series in the points standings, the Gatorade Front Runner Award, the Clevite Engine Builder Award and Bud Pole Award races, laps led, laps completed and best average finish. Current season results include two wins, four top fives, nine top ten finishes and two Bud Pole Awards. Woodside finished both the 1997 and 1998 seasons in second place in the Winston West points standings.
