Fans have started arriving in their thousands for this weekend¹s V8 Supercar 1000 at Bathurst¹s Mt Panorama and many of them two at a time in their trusty old utes.
Ute drivers from across the country have answered the call to the inaugural Great Ford Ute Muster, which will be part of the activities this weekend at Australia¹s most famous motorsport event.
An Australian institution, the Ute Muster has become synonymous with the new V8 BRutes category that will also debut as a support category at this year¹s V8 Supercar 1000.
Canberra¹s Anthony Harris made the trek to Mt Panorama earlier this week and has settled in for four full days of on-track action.
An obvious Ford fan, Harris bought his 1971 XY Ford ute a couple of years ago and uses it as his trusty workhorse on a daily basis.
³I¹ve been coming here for 10 years and wouldn¹t miss it,² said Harris.
³This is the best weekend of the year and it will be even better on Sunday when The Rat (Paul Radisich) wins the race GO The Rat.²
Utes of all makes, models and ages are expected to converge on the famous Mt Panorama circuit as the ^Ìuties¹ wage their own Ford versus Holden battle in 11 different categories.
Judged by V8 BRutes drivers Damien White and Ian McAllister, ute owners will go head-to-head in categories such as Best Engine Bay, Best Paintwork, Best Chicks Ute, Most Feral and Best Presented.
The range of prizes on offer include Hot Laps in the passenger seat of a V8 Racing Brute, R.M. Williams Merchandise and Bluey¹s Utes gear.
Winners of each category will win the ultimate prize with inclusion in the V8 Supercar 1000 parade lap, just prior to the main race on Sunday. Event organisers have set aside a special area for the muster within the Mt Panorama precinct and the first 550 entrants who hold a 4-day V8 Supercar 1000 ticket receiving a free site within the Max Cameron camp ground valued at $100.
All entrants will need to be registered and ready for judging by 10am Saturday 6 October. <pre> FACTS & FIGURES
