Morris, White, Young Take a Win Apiece in Torrid V8 BRute Muster at QLD Raceway
PAUL Morris, more used to piloting a V8 Supercar, tried out a Holden Commodore ute and came away a winner in the first of three Poolrite V8 BRute Muster races at Queensland Raceway today.
Morris signed up to drive the ute only last Wednesday night, but lack of familiarity did not prevent him scoring a dominant victory in the seven-lap event.
But the rest of the day did not go his way, although eighth and seven places did not reflect the intensity of the battles he waged with other competitors in the V8-powered Commodores and Falcon utes.
"We had some great dices And the crowd loved it. These cars are so equal that it really comes down to driving skill and perhaps a bit of luck. I was happy to get a win in for Holden," Morris said.
Damien White, in a Falcon, beat Gary Young, driving a Commodore, in race two and the result was reversed for race three.
At times the cars raced three wide through the corners, cheered on by a crowd that included the occupants of more than 400 road utes participating in a ute muster.
POOLRITE V8 BRute MusterThe six-round V8 BRute Muster is for off-the-showroom-floor Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon utilities. Only limited performance and safety modifications are allowed, in the interests of controlling costs and encouraging close racing.
