Coopers and Luff on top.
The three-prong attack from South Australian brewer Coopers Brewery, now teamed up with title front runners Nilsson Motorsport, has proven to be a fruitful one with reigning Poolrite V8 Brute champion Warren Luff the fastest qualifier.
In three hot laps, Luff posted a time in the green Coopers Pale Ale Ford Falcon AU XR8 that nobody could better. His 1 min 40.1033 left the champ slightly disappointed for he was eager to break into a 39, "But hey, what's it really matter? The chook lotto grid draw will determine our starting positions," he acknowledged.
Sparking further team joy was the performance of BRute rookie Grant Park who posted the session's 11th fastest time in red Coopers Sparkling Ale Ford Falcon AU XR8 while the green Coopers Pale Ale Holden Commodore VU SS of Chris Smerdon was less than one tenth of a second slower.
"We are very impressed with young Grant who at just 19 year of age, showed a lot of maturity. We have even forgiven him for swiping a concrete wall that damage the left rear tail light. Lets just say it is his first tattoo," enthused team principle Rod Nilsson.
"We are also fettling Chris' car this weekend and the Nilsson touch has seen that car producing more power and is going faster than it has in the past," he added.
All three cars featured in the top half of the unique "chook lotto" and figured reasonably well. Luff will start race one out of position four, and 11th in the second. Park starts 14th initially and has pole for the next outing, and Smerdon has the outside of row three firstly and ninth for race two.
Nilsson Motorsport has also attracted support from JVC Mobile Entertainment, Cronulla Car Sound and All-Power Steering, an Adelaide company that has committed for the entire season.
