Indy win caps Luff's new V8 BRutes crown.
Ford Falcon driver Warren Luff celebrated his new 2002 V8 BRute Series championship with an all-the-way win in race two of round eight on the Gold Coast Indy street circuit today.
Luff started on the front grid row beside pole winner Alan Grice and won a panel-rubbing tussle for the first corner.
While Grice spun and rejoined at the back of the 26-car field, Luff made a break and was never seriously challenged over the five-lap run to the chequered flag - although even without pressure from behind he set a new lap record time of 2 minutes 18.69 seconds.
The win was the ninth this year for the 26-year-old Sydney driving instructor, although he needed only a fifth place in yesterday's first of three races to clinch the championship.
Ford drivers Grant Denyer and Damien White crossed the line second and third today, but were relegated in the results to 16th and fifth respectively when they were among 14 drivers given time penalties of up to one minute for driving over the corner kerbs.
James Brock (Commodore), former Sydney Roosters league star Jack Elsegood (Falcon) and Andrew Miedecke (Falcon) moved up into the minor placings behind Luff.
After a day off tomorrow, the V8 BRutes will start their final race of the year on Sunday morning.
