McAlister A One-Lap Winner In V8 BRute Muster
FORD driver Ian 'Macca' McAlister celebrated his first win in the Poolrite V8 BRute Muster series after a controversial one-lap race today on the Surfers Paradise Indy street circuit.
The race was stopped by officials on the third of five scheduled laps after a backmarker spun and blocked the track, which was drenched by rain.
According to the rules, the race results were declared on the order at the end of the first lap, when McAlister was leading from another Ford driver, Steve 'Robbo' Robinson.
The result stood although McAlister was penalised for short-cutting a corner on the first lap. Robinson took the lead when McAlister pitted for a stop-and-go penalty, but was eliminated almost immediately when hit from behind by Damien 'Ice' White (Falcon).
The red flag followed.
The race was the second of three this weekend for round five of the Poolrite V8 BRute Muster.
Because of the short distance only half-points were awarded, with Rod 'Redline' Wilson still in the series lead on 615 points, from White (596) and Gary 'The Boss' MacDonald (589.5).
RESULTS (Race 2):
1. Ian 'Macca' McAlister (Falcon XR8)
2. Steve 'Robbo' Robinson (Falcon XR8)
3. Rod 'Redline' Wilson (Commodore SS)
4. Dennis 'Cribbo' Cribbin (Commodore SS)
5. Damien 'Ice' White (Falcon XR8)
