TCR DOMINATES FIRST CLIO CUP TEST AT SILVERSTONE ARENA

Renowned ELF Renault Clio Cup team Total Control Racing thoroughly dominated the first ever test for the 2.0-litre cars at the new Silverstone Arena Grand Prix Circuit today, Monday, 17th May, with Sam Tordoff, Mike Robinson and James Dixon all producing excellent performances.

Leeds 21-year-old Tordoff emerged with the fastest time of all across the day's four sessions, lapping with a best of 2m24.825 seconds (90.99mph) during the final run to impressively lead the way by a full second ahead of team-mate Dixon.

Second fastest in both morning sessions behind early pace-setter Robinson, Tordoff went to the top of the timesheets in session three and improved by nine 10ths of a second in the final run to stamp his authority on the day.

Saloon car newcomer Dixon, who had a highly unfortunate accident during pre-event testing at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit just over a fortnight ago which ruled him out of the race weekend, bounced back superbly at Silverstone today.

Ending the test with a best lap of 2m25.762 seconds (90.40mph), the 20-year-old from Stockbury progressed very well indeed and certainly made his mark by closing-out the test second overall on combined times.

Robinson, who is currently TCR's highest placed driver in the championship standings in third place, led the way during the morning by topping sessions one and two -- heading Tordoff by just over 0.1 seconds each time.

The 27-year-old Surrey racer concluded the test fourth overall on combined times by virtue of his best lap from session two, a time of 2m25.814 seconds (90.37mph). During session four, the TCR team-mates locked out the top three positions to cap off a superb day for the Wednesbury team.

"All three drivers did really well today", said TCR team principal Lee Brookes, "I'm delighted with their individual performances and the team performance as a whole. Sam, Mike and James all worked together well and while we did want to come away from the first test on the Arena GP track with the quickest time, to be first, second and fourth, and have Sam a second clear, was fantastic."

Next on the agenda for TCR will be another ELF Renault Clio Cup test day on Tuesday, 25th May, at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk. The team's next race action will then follow over the weekend 5th/6th June at Oulton Park Island Circuit in Cheshire with rounds seven and eight of the Clio Cup and rounds 10 and 11 of the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup.
