SCAMMONDEN RACER LLOYD TO APPEAR AT HAREWOOD HILLCLIMB NEXT SUNDAY

West Yorkshire saloon car star Daniel Lloyd has confirmed he will appear as an active participant in next weekend's British Championship event at Harewood Speed Hillclimb near Leeds after receiving a special invite from event organisers.

Daniel, who is embarking on only his second season of car racing action this year in the high-profile ELF Renault Clio Cup, has caught the imagination of local motorsport fans with his outstanding progress and the 17-year-old from Scammonden has happily accepted the invite from Harewood to have a timed run at the wheel of a Lotus Elise, kindly supplied by the venue.

Harewood Speed Hillclimb, which is run and operated by the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC), is the longest course of its type in the UK. Although not considered a regular route of progression for aspiring touring car and sportscar drivers, hillclimbing set eventual three-time World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx on the path to success.

Competitors in a variety of cars, including modified road saloons, kit-cars and thoroughbred racers, are grouped into several different classes and then take to the hill with the simple aim of achieving the fastest sprint time possible. Daniel's participation at Harewood next Sunday, 10th May, will mark his first ever attempt at a hillclimb run and he's certainly looking forward to it.

He commented: "I appreciate the Harewood officials inviting me along to next weekend's British Championship event and I'm looking to having my first ever run on the course. It's obviously something completely new to me but anything which involves competitive driving is definitely my thing, it should be a lot of fun."

Daniel is also set to have his Team Pyro-prepared ELF Renault Clio Cup race car on display at Harewood and he'll be on hand to sign autographs during the day when not competing.

Practice for next Sunday's event is scheduled to get underway at 09.00 with official timed runs beginning at approximately 12.30. Admission is just 0x00a310 per adult with free access to the paddock and completely free admission to the entire event for under-14s. Car parking is also free of charge.

Harewood Hillclimb course is situated at Stockton Farm, just off the A569 north of Leeds, between the villages of Harewood and Collingham.

Daniel's next ELF Renault Clio Cup outing will come a week on Thursday, 14th May, during official pre-event practice for the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2009 championship at Donington Park. The race meeting follows on 16th/17th May at the Leicestershire venue.

In the meantime, highlights of the second round of the Clio Cup season -- which took place at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent in early April -- will be screened as part of the Motorsport UK programme at 13.30 tomorrow, Saturday, 2nd May, on ITV4. Check listings for details of additional replays.
