EMERGING STAR LLOYD AIMING FOR CONTINUED PROGRESS AT CROFT
After producing a very satisfying double top 10 performance on his debut outing with legendary ELF Renault Clio Cup squad Total Control Racing at Oulton Park last weekend, Scammonden's Daniel Lloyd cannot wait to return to the driving seat at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire on 13th/14th June.
With just a week remaining until the halfway point of the 2009 season, rounds nine and 10, Daniel is focused on continuing the consistently competitive form he showed at his 'home' venue. Having changed teams ahead of the Oulton Park event, the move proved to be a well advised one as he enjoyed a terrific showing in front of the biggest raceday crowd of the year.
Croft, which is situated near Darlington in the North East of England, is a track which holds great memories for the 17-year-old after he won his first ever car race there last year in the Ginetta Junior Championship at the wheel of the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) Scholarship Winner entry.
Now, for the fifth event of his maiden season in the action packed Clio Cup, Daniel -- who is currently the highest placed rookie in the championship in ninth position overall -- is aiming to consolidate his coveted top 10 placing in the title race and add another good helping of points to his healthy total.
"Oulton Park was a fantastic weekend for us, it was my first with TCR and to finish in eighth place during the Saturday race and then seventh in Sunday's televised race was as good a start with the team as we could have hoped for", said Daniel.
"We were confident we'd made the right decision after Donington to join TCR and if we can do the same at Croft as we did at Oulton Park, I'll be really happy. We're so impressed with the way Lee (Brookes) runs the team and Croft is a circuit where TCR has done really well in the past so I'm hoping we can take another couple of top 10 finishes."
The provisional timetable for the Croft weekend begins with pre-event practice on Friday, 12th June, with qualifying following at 11.15 on Saturday, 13th June. The first ELF Renault Clio Cup race, round nine, is scheduled to take place at 16.30 on the Saturday with round 10 set to commence at 15.15 on Sunday, 14th June. The Sunday race will also be screened live on Freeview, cable and digital satellite channel ITV4.
2009 Provisional ELF Renault Clio Cup Standings (after Rd8): 1st Philip Glew, 239pts; 2nd Alex MacDowall, 205pts; 9th Daniel Lloyd, 86pts
