10. In a crash-filled Grand Prix of Indianapolis, it was hard to choose between all the crash photos. This one wins out because it's the moment of impact and Martin Plowman is clearly trying to earn extra frequent flyer miles.
9. A unique view of Indianapolis Motor Speedway from the flag stand. Penske duo Helio Castroneves and Will Power screaming past. There's not much that says "May" and "Indy 500" more than this image.
8. We've said it before, but it bears repeating: rallying is probably the most spectacular sports photo-wise. The natural and scenic views with some incredible driving. Rally Argentina this year was a bit foggy and rainy on the final leg. More fun for everyone.
7. Vaughn Gittin Jr. has a little off course excursion during the Formula Drift event at Road Atlanta. You're supposed to keep it on the tarmac, not go all Ken Block on us. This didn't keep Gittin Jr. from winning the event I might add...so he's doing something right. Great frame though.
6. This is our wildcard for the week. Something about this image speaks to us. It's a racer's racer kind of photo (minus those ugly noses unfortunately). Action, racing, teammates, marks that show drivers have gone wide there, the color of the rumble strips. It's nice.
5. Anytime a photographer can catch another photographer's flash, the quality of the image immediately doubles. Now a somewhat bland photo becomes fabulous because someone off to the side basically acted as your assistant with some fill-flash to get the right light on the car. Part luck of course, but that doesn't make it any less of a photo because of it.
4. Sparks, fire, mayhem, NASCAR.

These kinds of start shots remind us of the old and great start shots from the 80s when the grids were full (remember Thursday pre-qualifying?) so the long stream of cars going through the first few corners was always something impressive. Also note Lewis Hamilton isn't even in the frame (he'd already gone past, his start was so much better than everyone else).
2. My Citroën jumps higher than yours.
1. This photo is so telling on many levels. Lewis Hamilton's attitude, relief, dominance, arrogance(?). He's happy, and it shows. Nice reaction photo from our friends at XPB Images.
