FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Sept. 13, 2000) - When the curtain rises for the 2001 race season, Texas Motor Speedway will become the only speedway in the country to feature every major form of American automobile racing. Beginning next March, and running through September, Texas Motor Speedway will give fans a constant variety of auto racing and entertainment.
"We said from day one that Texas Motor Speedway would not be just another speedway," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "In just four short years, we have been able to give our fans every major racing series in America. This is a tremendous feat for what has truly become The Great American Speedway."
In addition to the unprecedented schedule of races for 2001, Texas Motor Speedway introduces fans to a weeklong festival of activities, promotions, and excitement in the spring and fall. RPM Week-Texas will be a celebration of auto racing during the NASCAR Winston Cup week, March 28-April 1, and again during the Indy Racing Northern Light Series championship race week, Sept. 13-16. During RPM Week-Texas, fans will be treated to virtually non-stop racing and activities at the speedway and in surrounding communities.
"If you are a race fan, there will be no better place to be than RPM Week-Texas next spring and fall at Texas Motor Speedway," Gossage said. "The whole family can enjoy great racing and race-related activities all week. This is our attempt to make race week an event for our whole community by tying in with our speedway sponsors, media partners and local businesses."
The 2001 race season at Texas Motor Speedway begins with the return of the Grand Prix of Texas and the American Le Mans Series, March 1-4 on the infield road course. The inaugural RPM Week-Texas begins March 28 with the return of the Hav-A-Tampa late model stock cars on the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. The Pennzoil World of Outlaws sprint cars visit the dirt track on March 29-30 for the Southern Bleacher Classic. The NASCAR Busch Series Texas 300 is March 31, with RPM Week - Texas concluding with the NASCAR Winston Cup DIRECTV 500 on Sunday, April 1.
Another first at Texas Motor Speedway is introduced April 27-29 with the CART FedEx Championship Series Texas 600 and the Dayton Indy Lights Series race. The month of June is ushered in with the Indy Racing Northern Light Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on June 7-9. The Casino Magic 500 proved to be the most exciting race in Indy Racing history last June, and Scott Sharp returns to defend his photo finish win on June 9. The Fort Worth 400 truck race is scheduled for Friday night, June 8.
The fall version of RPM Week-Texas gets started with Wolf Brand Chili 100 Hav-A-Tampa event at the Dirt Track on Sept. 13. The O'Reilly Texas Showdown will feature two nights of Pennzoil World of Outlaws sprint car racing at the dirt track on Sept. 14-15.
