This Week in Ford Racing
August 4, 2010
Tanner Foust won a pair of gold medals at X Games last Saturday in Los Angeles, powered by his ROCKSTAR Ford Fiesta. For Foust, it wrapped up some unfinished business from X Games 15, where he left with a bronze medal despite being as quick as gold medal winner Kenny Brack. This time it was Foust who was perfect and who kept Fiesta's record perfect at X Games (3- 0).
TANNER FOUST - Ford Fiesta X Games Gold Medalist
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TAKEN CARE OF SOME UNFINISHED BUSINESS BY WINNING THE GOLD MEDAL THIS YEAR? "Last year, I came into the event feeling like I had the equipment to beat in a Ford and with a great partnership with ROCKSTAR. We got into the event and did all the right things and I made one solid mistake against Kenny Brack and because of that I walked away from a gold medal. I still had a bronze, but that mistake ate at me all year long. This year I did my homework. I went over to Europe. I went with the Fiesta and with ROCKSTAR and did the European RallyCross Championship and got a bunch of seat time in a car I would be driving for only a few hours at the X Games. When we hit the Coliseum we took care of business and here I stand with two golds, so it was epic."
AS YOU INDICATED, LAST YEAR THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOLD AND BRONZE WAS A MISTAKE. YOU STAND HERE TODAY HAVING MADE IT THROUGH A CHAOTIC DAY OF X GAMES RALLY COMPETITION WITHOUT A MISTAKE. FOR THAT YOU ARE A DOUBLE GOLD WINNER. "To bring the ROCKSTAR Fiesta back without a scratch was the whole reason why we were in front. I know it sounds like a cliché to say it, but you have got to finish to finish first. That was the case in both the Rally Car and SuperRally events. It was so easy in SuperRally to let the adrenaline get up there because you just launched four cars side-by-side, anti-lag popping, flames shooting everywhere, going 70 mph in no time into a tight little corner in a tunnel. It was so easy to get an adrenaline rush and feel like you were in a video game and just bounce off the other cars, but as soon as you do that you are in trouble."
THE FORD FIESTA DEFENDED ITS GOLD AND FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR DOMINATED THE X GAMES "Fiesta really put a stamp on the mark that it made last year. Last year, it came in as kind of the new player and walked away with a couple of medals and some people thought it was a fluke. But this year it was sort of epic with [Brian] Deegan and I in the Finals, gold and silver in both events in identically prepared ROCKSTAR Fiestas. For all of our partners and for us it was a dream event. Deegan would probably rather have it a little bit of another way, but ultimately Ford grabbed the top two spots on the podium in SuperRally and it was an all Ford final in Rally Car. It really was epic."
