Round 1 Subic International Raceway February 13, 2000

The Petron XCS Championship was almost a replay of last year with Team Petron/SRA dominating the results, but there was going to be a big difference. As the cars rushed into Turn 1 at the start of Round 1, there was a commotion as somebody tapped the back of the Honda of Pocholo Ramirez, sending it sideways in front of the field. The 67 year old Petron Team leader was able to keep it all together and the following drivers all avoided each other to keep things on the move.

"I felt a tap and had to correct as the cars funneled into the turn" said Ramirez "It was very crowded behind me, and one of the guys got a little too close".

Louis Ramirez (Petron/SRA) was in the lead with Miguel Ramirez behind him, as they powered down the long straight towards the hairpin. Behind them the newcomer Mike Aguilar (Morespeed) had moved ahead of Kookie Ramirez and was trying to close the gap. Good driving in his first ever circuit race. However the experience showed as K. Ramirez was able to get back under braking at the chicane.

Lap 3 and Pocholo Ramirez got past Kookie and now had set his sight on Miguel in front of him. Ferdie Ong (Toms/Ten Years After) using his experience had gotten past Mike Aguilar and was close behind Kookie Ramirez. The race got really exciting as both Pocholo Ramirez and Ferdie Ong were making their way up the field.

"I made my way up past the boys and noticed that Ferdie was always right behind me battling lap after lap with me and the rest of Team Petron" said Pocholo.

Behind these five, the others were having an exciting race, but Mike Aguilar had dropped out with engine trouble. Japanese guest driver Motokazu Kimura in the little Toyota Starlet was having a good battle with new comer Dominic Bon and Archie Patdu. Ferdie Ong was really pushing up front and had slipped past Louis Ramirez to get second. At one point he was able to get the lead, but P. Ramirez made a pass at he hairpin to get it back.

Then Louis Ramirez also got ahead of him in the closing stages of the race.

So the race ended with Pocholo Ramirez (Petron/SRA) winning the race, Louis Ramirez in second and Ferdie Ong in third. Ferdie was the first of the B rated drivers, as well as setting the fastest lap of the race.

In the C category it was Dominic Bon another new driver winning the class with Archie Patdu in second and Tom Pastor (Team TEC) in third.
