COUNTDOWN TO THE MOSPORT FESTIVAL

AUGUST 28-31, 1997

MOSPORT FESTIVAL TELEVISION COVERAGE -- The Nashville Network (TNN) will telecast the Exxon Supreme GT Series presented by Virgin Interactive race live on Saturday, August 30, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm EDT. The SportsCar GT race will re-air on the FOX Sports/Prime/SportsChannel network’s Motorsports Hour the week of September 17. Sunday’s Exxon World SportsCar Championship race will air first on Speedvision September 5 and then on the FOX Sports/Prime/SportsChannel network's Motorsports Hour the week of September 10. The Mosport SPEEDVISION Cup race is scheduled to air on Speedvision September 6 at 2:00 pm, followed by the Black Magic Pro Series at 4:30 pm. A complete listing is on the following page.

RON FELLOWS TO DRIVE FERRARI -- Ron Fellows, one of Canada’s premier race car drivers, will co-drive the #43 Ferrari 333 SP with Rob Morgan in the Mosport Exxon World SportsCar Championship race. Fellows, who has competed extensively in Canadian motorsport series, is best known for his success in the Trans-Am Championship. In 95 Trans-Am starts, Fellows has won 19 times, been fastest qualifier on 13 occasions, has 60 top five finishes and owns the Trans-Am qualifying track record at Mosport. He drove for the Buz McCall Chevrolet factory team the past two seasons. This season, Fellows drove the Callaway C7R in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and has competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series ... "To say I am absolutely thrilled at the prospect of driving the Ferrari at Mosport is an understatement," said Fellows. "I don’t know much about the car but I do know that it should reach speeds of close to 300 kilometres per hour (approximately 187 mph) on the back straight and that’s very fast, no matter what type of car you are driving. The Ferrari will likely be 8-10 seconds per lap faster than Trans-Am cars. I have followed the Exxon World SportsCar Championship from afar and I am impressed with the quality of cars, teams and drivers that are involved in the series."

SUPPLEMENTAL REGULATIONS -- Supplemental Regulations for the Mosport Festival are in the mail and available on SportsCar Fax on Demand. To receive the Supp Regs via fax, call (201) 947-7455 from the handset of your fax machine and request document number 4661.

MOSPORT TRACK IMPROVEMENTS -- The first phase of track improvements have been completed at Mosport with the grading and repaving of the "hump" that existed just before turn eight near the end of the Mario Andretti Straightaway. For the last two years, a temporary chicane has been installed to slow the cars and prevent them from getting airborne as they crested the hump.

SPECTATOR IMPROVEMENTS -- In addition to the track improvements, several improvements have been made in the spectator areas. Temporary grandstands and hospitality suites have been set up along the front straight, two jumbo screen TVs are being erected, many of the washrooms have been upgraded and playgrounds have been added in both the infield and the family camping area.

Tom Papadopoulos, winner this year at Sebring and Montreal, leads the driver standings with 815 points. Ten points back in second place is Carlos Hank, Jr. (winner at Sears Point and Texas race #1) with 805 points. 1996 Ferrari Challenge Champion Steve Earle (winner of Texas race #2) is in third place with 795 points. Following Lime Rock, the Ferrari Challenge concludes with races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, September 18-20 and the Ferrari Challenge International Finals at Pergusa, Italy, November 7-9.

When you reach the border, tell Customs officials you are racing at Mosport and provide them the Bond #35-738707. 3.) Complete an E29B form that they will provide. 4.) When you are leaving Canada after the event, you must remember to stop at Canadian Customs and cancel the Bond.

Also per the Mosport Supp Regs, each entrant or his/her designated representative should inform a person designated by SportsCar of an impending pit stop which will include a driver change within a minimum of two laps prior to the stop. The team manager or crew chief must sign the pit stop report advising work completed and names of drivers into and out of the car. The pit stop report form must be submitted to the designated pit marshall ... Both of these policies are designed to provide more accurate and better television coverage of SportsCar events.
