Labor Day Sports Car Races at South Haven, Michigan

GingerMan Raceway, South Haven MI, will be the site for a full weekend of sports car races over Labor Day weekend, September 5-7, 1998. Saturday and Sunday will see traditional sports car races with both vintage and current era sports cars competing. Labor Day Monday will be an open track time trial competition, open to any adventurous driver with a safe car.

GingerMan Raceway is a 1.9 mile road racing course just east of South Haven. It is unique in that there are several viewing points from which the entire course can be watched. The track has been praised for its wide, smooth paving, tricky turns and safety. Located on over 360 acres, it has ample grassy parking and picnic areas, a pond, concession stands and modern restrooms.

The GingerMan Vintage Challenge III races are presented by the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs. Over 200 cars are expected to attend, from tiny open wheeled cars barely big enough to hold a driver, up to thundering Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs. Foreign makes represented should be Porsche, Alfa Romeo, MG, Austin Healey, Datsun and others.

Competitors, race staff and guests are invited to attend. Guest gate fee is $10, good for the whole weekend. Children under 12 are free. To compete in the wheel-to-wheel racing Saturday and Sunday, age 18, a competition license and race prepared car are required. To race Monday in the open track time trials, you need only age 18, a state driver's license and safe car- most street cars qualify, though open roadsters and convertibles must have rollover bars.

For competitor entry forms or further information, contact Race Chairman Ross Fosbender, 3618 E. 1769th Rd., Ottawa IL 61350. E-mail: rossf@interaccess.com . Clubs are encouraged to add this weekend to their event calendar. With advance notice, a special paddock area can be reserved for your members.
