It was a fantastic weekend for the factory Honda Racing Team of T.C. 2000. They dominated in the second round of the T.C. 2000 championship disputed in the circuit of General Roca in the province of Río Negro, south of Argentina. J. M. Silva (Honda Civic / HRA / 3) took the victory followed by his teammate, Guillermo Ortelli (Honda Civic / HRA / 4) and the 2002 champion Norberto Fontana (Toyota Corolla / TTA / 1) completed the podium.
The dream for the Honda team started on saturday with the qualify session with Silva and Ortelli in the first row. Martín Basso (Honda Civic / HRA / 24) completed the happiness with the fifth position driving the third car of the team
On sunday, in a great sunny day, started the final race with the two Honda Civic followed by Gabriel Ponce de León (Ford Focus / Berta Motorsport / 6) and Walter Hernández (Ford Focus / Berta Motorsport / 5) serching the first victory for the Ford Focus in the category.
Already in the second lap the Pace Car entered to move the cars of Esteban Tuero (Mitsubishi Lancer / Sport Team / 33) who had another horrible weekend and J.M. López (Alfa Romeo / EEEEEE / 18).
When the green flag appeared again in the track, Silva and Ortelli keep leading, while Fontana who was eighth, started pass cars. Quickly the champion left behind his teammate Omar Martínez (Toyota Corolla / TTA / 2). Then was the moment of Marcelo Bugliotti (Chevrolet Astra / Chevrolet Pro Racing team / 10) and Hernández in the same lap. A couple of laps later and in a great fight Norberto passed Ponce de León after argued like mad.
In lap 12 it was the end for Crhistian Ledesma (Chevrolet Astra / Chevrolet Pro Racing team / 9), who was making his debut in the category this sunday. The leader of the Turismo Carretera championship left the race with mechanics problems in his car. However it was a very positive weekend for him, because he qualified eleventh over 29 cars.
After 15 laps of hard race, Silva was leading followed by Ortelli (like all the weekend), Fontana, Ponce de León, Hernández and Bugliotti in the top six.
In lap 22 the Pace Car shown again for a couple of laps.
By halfway through the fight between Silva and Ortelli for the leadership and Fontana and Ponce de León for the third place was very intense.
Mechanics problems shown up in Bugliotti`s car when he was trying to pass the Ford Focus that made him quit the competition in lap 34 and with this ended the activity for the Chevrolet Pro Racing team in General Roca.
The lasts five laps had a fantastic fight for the third place between Fontana, Ponce, Hernández and Martínez. In lap 42 Hernández passed his teammate in a great maneuver that left very ungry the 2001 champion.
With 45 laps disputed and one hour of competition Silva took his second victory in this circuit (he won here in the 2002 season opener) and the number fourteenth in T.C. 2000 in 116 races. Also this was the first one-two for the Honda Racing Argentina team with Silva and Ortelli.
Fontana took a very important result for the championship where he leads with 32 points followed by Silva 28, Hernández 20 and Ponce de León with 19.
The next race of the T.C. 2000 will be next April 6th. in Trelew.
