Reigning champion Patrick Huisman (NL) secured his third victory of the SuperCup season and increased his points lead by winning the seventh round of the Porsche Pirelli SuperCup on Austria's 4.3 kilometre A1-Ring. The Dutchman started the 16 lap sprint from second on the grid and over- took pole setter Bernd Maylander (D) in the first lap. Maylander held on to second position until the final lap before being out-manoeuvred by newcomer Jorg Bergmeister (D) and Stephane Ortelli (MC). Title contenders Ortelli, Maylander and Sascha Maassen remain a lingering threat to Huisman with just 20 points seperating the four front runners. Victory yields 20 points.

Patrick Huisman (NL, winner): "After this win I'm feeling very optimistic because the upcoming circuits suit me. Today I made optimal use of my brakes, and I had the impression that Bergmeister and Maylander were at the limit with their brakes in the final laps."

Jorg Bergmeister (D, second): "At last a top result. Our set-up was better than in qualifying. I'm not particularly fond of the A1-Ring and so I had come to terms securing third place here, but then Bernd handed me his second position when he suddenly slowed down."

Thomas Muster (A, VIP driver and int'l Tennis star, 20th): "I would like to do this 14 days in a row. Shortly before the race was over I drove my quickest lap on very used tyres, so I still have plenty of potential to improve. I would never have guessed that this series is so exhausting, but I would like to get used to it.
