SCCA Pro Racing/WKA Constructors Championship announces 2003 schedule; series split into two divisions.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (October 17, 2002)-- SCCA Pro Racing, Ltd. and the World Karting Association (WKA) have announced the 2003 Constructors Championship schedule that will include 17 races. The series also announced a format change for next year that will include splitting the schedule into two separate divisions, with one final championship event for both divisions, the SCCA Pro Racing/WKA U.S. Karting Championships.

The 2003 Constructors Championship will consist of East and West divisions. Each division will host four race weekends, consisting of an open practice session on Friday and two complete race events on Saturday and Sunday. >From these eight races, a driver's best six finals will be used to determine the divisional champions.

The final event of the season will be the Inaugural SCCA Pro Racing/WKA U.S. Karting Championships, and will include drivers from both divisions. This first annual event will be held at Lowe's Motor Speedway, during the 2003 North American Karting Championships. In order to be eligible to compete in the U.S. Karting Championships, a driver must compete in at least three divisional weekends during the year.

"The two-division format for the Constructors Championship will allow us to not only visit new venues but also attract more competitors to the series," said WKA President Randy Kugler."We feel it was important to make the Constructors Championship economically feasible to drivers from both sides of the country and next year's schedule will do that."

The series plans on rotating the SCCA Pro Racing/WKA U.S. Karting Championships between east and west division venues every other year. Details about the 2003 Driver Scholarship Program with Primus Racing will be released next month at the 2002 season finale, in Charlotte.
