Damper on second qualifier as Ricciardello retains pole.

Slightly damp conditions at Sandown Raceway for Saturday's second attempt for grid positions have put paid to quicker times for most. That has left Tony Ricciardello on pole for race one of the Reward Insurance Australian Sports Sedan Championship final round. While the Alfa Romeo/Chev was fastest in the morning session, its 1 min 10.0418 was slower by a second, than the time he set on Friday afternoon.

Similarly Darren Hossack who was hoping to find gains in the second outing, was a tad slower. The Saab/Chev hindered marginally by a drivetrain problem, the team hoped to rectify by tomorrow's first race over 12 laps.

However the Nissan 300ZX/Chev of Kerry Baily improved significantly to be second fastest and third overall. "We changed the bump stop settings on the suspension and dialed out some of the front camber and the car is getting better and better," Baily said.

Dean Randle proved that the Saab/Chev first session quickie was no fluke by being within one hundredth of a second of it, in the later outing while Daniel Jameson impoved his times but not his fifth position for the Jaguar/Chev.

Both Phil Crompton and Tony Wilson opted to leave their respective Falcon and Commodore in the garages while Mick Monterosso continued to struggle in the Ford Escort/Chev. Llynden Riethmuller was another to find more pace in the Ford Sierra Turboed powered Mazda RX7.

Highlights of each round of the Reward Insurance Australian Sports Sedan Championship can be seen on Network TEN's Trackside program. Each of the five rounds of the series will be scheduled for the program, which generally airs the week after the round. Trackside is a 90-minute program featured on Sunday afternoons from 2:30 pm right after RPM.
