Louisburgh racing driver, Paul Sammin, is making steady progress in the 2001 Formula Europa Championship and currently lies 3rd in the 9 Race Series. So far the first race win of his debut season in the 2000cc single seater category has eluded the 20 year old, but with three podium positions already 'in the bag' that strongly held ambition is still very much alive after leading a couple of races from front row starts.

Supported by Finn Auctioneers, Claremoris; Clew Bay Hotel, Westport and Edmund Walker, Dublin, the Team MURSAM driver lies 3rd overall in the Championship (formerly known as Formula Opel) which is run mainly at Mondello Park and Kirkistown in Northern Ireland.

With three races to go (including next weekends famous Leinster Trophy meeting), the former Formula Vee Novice Champion is looking to consolidate his position in the Championship which is currently led by ex-UK professional driver John O'Hara, followed by veteran Vivian Daly, brother of ex-Formula One and IndyCar driver Derek Daly.

"My aim is to finish 3rd in my first season in Formula Europa and hopefully move on from there. For instance, last year's champion, Keith Dempsey, is now racing successfully in the UK Formula Renault Championship and that is where I wish to be in the not too distant future. In the meantime it's a matter of doing my utmost to win a race here before the season end," commented Paul.
