In the 16th and final lap, Altfrid Heger (D) secured Victory at the 6th round of the Porsche Pirelli SuperCup. In front of 120,000 spectators, Heger and Monegasque Stephane Ortelli fought over victory from lap seven. Pole setter Patrick Huisman (NL) made a rocket start and led for the first six laps until he was sidelined by a leaking radiator. His brother Duncan took over position one, but handed the lead to Heger in the next lap after sliding on Patrick's radiator fluid. Heger came to Magny-Cours highly motivated after winning the Nurburgring 24 Hour race last weekend in a Porsche 911 GT3R. Tension is mounting in the championship. Six rounds have yielded five winners, with the top four pilots seperated by just two points. VIP driver, 1996 Porsche Pirelli SuperCup champion Emmanuel Collard, showed why he still holds the record number of fastest race laps. Starting 11th on the grid, the 29-year-old finished on the podium.

Altfrid Heger (D, winner): "I've still got the 'flu and a 24 hour race in my system, so I'm exhausted. But the effort was rewarded. Experience helped me to make the right moves at the right times. I'm happy for my Valier team and my kids. They know their dad can still win."

Stephane Ortelli (MC, second): "I'm delighted for Altfrid, but it's hard to miss a victory in the last lap due to missing a gear. Today the track was very slippery, it was like sprinting on ice."

Emmanuel Collard (F,third): "My start was perfect and I overtook three cars. There was chaos in the first corner with many cars spinning on fluid. Driving was not without risk. At the beginning I conserved my tyres, but near the end I pushed really hard. It was fantastic." <pre> Race results (top 10):
