Todd Lamb Debuts at Road Atlanta
Braselton, Georgia - After a strong showing during practice for the Road Atlanta Sports Car Grand Prix, it was a short day of racing for the VanCleef Racing #84 Red Line Oil / TRD Toyota Supra team of Todd Lamb and Bob Henderson. Tackling both a new track and an unfamiliar car, Lamb demonstrated great skill in bringing the Speedvision Cup Sports Class Supra up to speed quickly throughout the weekend.
Race day strategy put Henderson in the car first leaving Lamb to bring it home. About 50 minutes into the 2 hour 45 minute race the yellow flag flew. Knowing they were within the fuel window for making only one stop, the crew made the call to bring it in for the exchange. Once out on track Lamb caught the field still behind the pace car and geared up for the restart. As the green flag flew Lamb made his presence known and passed for a position going into turn one.
The next five laps were in heavy traffic with plenty of wheel to wheel action. Lamb had the composure of a seasoned veteran in the midst of it all. Though the day ended abruptly when, the #43 car of Nonnamaker and Pate attempted to take the line away in turn seven. Spin inducing contact was made which ultimately caused the right rear suspension of the Supra to collapse. The damage was too extensive for repair.
Final Results: 4th in class, 33rd overall Telecast: Speedvision - Sunday, June 28th, 9pm
Todd Lamb: "The VanCleef Racing crew did an excellent job setting up the Toyota Supra and I was able to quickly get up to speed. The car was clearly competitive, and I was looking forward to a solid showing in my first race with the Speedvision Cup Series. It was a real disappointment to end the Road Atlanta race so early in the event, but it's one of those racing deals; no matter how careful you are, there's always the chance that someone else is going to end your day early for you. The good news is, I am not running for the points championship, so it doesn't hurt me in that regard. I look forward to competing in the next race August 7-9 at Mosport with the team."
