TREADWAY RACING SETS ANOTHER TRACK RECORD June 22, 1999
Treadway Racing and its driver Rich Treadway are proud to announce another track record to its credit. Sunday, in Salem, Indiana, Rick won his heat race and set the record for the fastest 8 laps recorded. He also holds the same title at the Lima Speedway, set the first of June! Not to mention the same record in Anderson, IN.
The Salem track is a little more than a half mile, asphalt, high-banked oval. The high banks can really increase the speed of the midget cars. The team had a chance to practice there last week. By the time practice was over, Rick had decreased Lap time by almost three seconds.
We drew a high position for qualifying, and our 16.8 seconds placed us 15th out of 25 cars. We started 4th in the first 8 lap heat race. The car felt really good during the hot laps and it ran well in the heat. In 2 laps I was able to pass three cars and take the checkered flag.
The order for the feature race is determined by your qualifying time. We started the feature in 14th position, outside of row seven. Man, was this race an adrenaline rush! I battled with two cars back and forth. I had a pretty good line coming out of the fourth turn and seemed to pick up speed. Coming out of one, I seemed to get squirrelly and a little close to the wall. I passed a couple of cars and then got passed again. There was a lot of rubber on the track, and I couldn't find the end of the tear off strips. It was a little hard to see. We managed to avoid the accidents and finished 15th and in one piece!
Saturday night was another MCI WorldCom National Midget Race at 16th Street. We started 4th in our heat race and finished second. We were excited about that. The track was pretty dry and slick. We started towards the back of the pack for the feature race, and found ourselves in last place at one time. On the second lap, a car came up my back tire and sent me up in the air! I had a good look at the sky for a while. It sure was a pretty sunset! I got it under control, avoided a lot of accidents, and finished 4th. All in all, we were pleased with the weekend. First and second in our heats, a new track record, and 4th at 16th Street.
Just a reminder, the rained out Anderson race is rescheduled for Wednesday, June 30th.
We are ready to leave for Colorado Springs to race the Silver Crown series Sunday, June 27th, after the IRL race. We will qualify and run our heat races Saturday. From Colorado Springs, June 30th at Anderson, then the 16th Street Summer Sizzle, July 6th-10th. All seating for that is reserved, so call the track for information and tickets if you are planning to attend. (317-955-5000)
