Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup front runner, Rick Pearson has become one of the first drivers to sign up for the 2001 championship by committing to his current team, Mark Fish Motorsport, for another season.
"Together with Mark Fish and my race engineer, Rob Friend, we have had an exceptional year," commented Pearson. "I know that there are a lot of drivers in discussion with Mark already and places in the team are likely to fill up very quickly.
"Since around fifty percent of my budget is in place already thanks to returning sponsors, ActiveShop and Freeparking.co.uk, I have now committed to the option which I believe will provide me with the best platform from which to launch a Championship-winning season."
Pearson joined Mark Fish Motorsport mid-way through 1997 in order to contest a handful of SuperCoupe Cup races in his Renault 5 GT Turbo. Remaining with the Harlow Common-based outfit for both 1998 and 1999, the partnership came to fruition at Snetterton last year when Pearson claimed his inaugural Freeparking.co.uk SuperCoupe victory.
After two and a half seasons together, both Pearson and Mark Fish Motorsport felt the time was right to step up a gear and together, they entered the new-for-2000, Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup. The partnership has since gone from strength to strength; in only his fifth season of racing, Pearson has proved himself to be more than a match for his experienced rivals with two poles and two podium positions to his credit. His stunning maiden victory on home soil at Brands Hatch two weeks ago underlines his potential as does the fact that he has finished outside of the top ten on just four occasions this season.
Mark Fish Motorsport meanwhile, are the newly crowned Clio Cup team champions and also field the drivers champion, Jim Edwards Jnr.
Rick Pearson returns to action in the final round of the Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup at Silverstone on Saturday (September 16).
