Following his giant-killing run to victory at Brands Hatch last time out, Mark Fish Motorsport's Rick Pearson returns to the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup at Oulton Park in Cheshire next weekend, for the penultimate round of the 2000 championship.

The TOCA package last visited the 2.36 mile Island circuit back in May. London-based Pearson qualified fifth on a drying track but a big slide at Cascades on the opening lap of the race dropped him down to thirteenth and left the Mark Fish-run Clio playing catch-up with the rest of the field. Despite his less than perfect introduction to the venue, Pearson is a big fan of the picturesque Chester track. "Oulton is a very scenic and challenging circuit," he says. "I'm a particular fan of the double apex right-hander onto the top straight which is particularly tricky and rewarding, as is the adverse camber corner at Cascades."

Since that first visit three months ago, Pearson's form has soared - he clinched his first ever series pole and podium position at Snetterton before securing his inaugural victory on the Indy Circuit last time out. All the signs are that his timely run of form is likely to carry the thirty-year old into the eleventh race of the season with more confidence than ever before.

"I do feel confident in the car at the moment and if we can stay out of trouble, I hope to be on the podium again," he says. "The Elf Renaultsport Clio Cup is a very level playing field, but without a doubt the Mark Fish Motorsport crew have got a great basic set-up on the ActiveShop car at the moment. It will be up to my team mate and Championship leader, Jim Edwards Jnr and myself to work together and optimise the cars but we are certainly on a roll at the moment and have locked out the front row in two of the last three rounds.

Rick Pearson returns to action in the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup at Oulton Park next weekend (09-10, September).
