Rick Pearson will continue his Renaultsport Clio Trophy campaign in round four of the championship next weekend when the V6 grid moves to Misano, Italy.
The Fulham ace began his preparations earlier this week with a productive test session at Donington Park in Leicestershire. During the day-long run, his Mark Fish Motorsport-prepared, ActiveShop Clio lapped with Renault's new suspension package for the first time. "The entire session was extremely valuable," he commented. "I'm feeling more confident in the car now than I have done all season. All teams have been issued the new suspension kit so it will be interesting to see how much time everyone else has managed to find relative to the Mark Fish crew."
Pearson finished a fantastic fifteenth position at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit last time out following a sizzling race-long charge from thirty-ninth on the grid. He will no doubt be hoping to better this in round four. "I've never actually seen Misano before- either in the flesh or on television- and there's only a one hour test session before qualifying so it's going to be very tough to learn the circuit and then beat the local drivers," he explains. "Nonetheless, the aim is as always to move closer to the front runners in terms of overall pace and to qualify at least in the top thirty, if not the top twenty.
"We're now approaching the key part of the season and with three races in the next four weeks, it's important that we put some points on the board and really start to compete if we are to challenge for championship honours next year.
"At the moment, all the Clio V6 teams are back to square one with their set-ups due to the introduction of Renault's new suspension kit. If we play our cards right, this could be a fantastic opportunity for us to compete on level terms."
Round four of the Renaultsport Clio Trophy takes place at Misano, July 07-08.
