MONTH OF JUNE BELONGS TO RICHMOND, VA ON NATIONAL MOTORSPORTS RACING CALENDARS AS SPOTLIGHT SWINGS FROM MAY GOINGS ON AT INDIANAPOLIS, IN RICHMOND, VA - The auto racing spotlight has always shone brightly on Indianapolis during May, but in June its focus shifts to Richmond, Virginia as America's three largest and premier sanctioning bodies invade the former Capital of the Confederacy over a 17-day span. NHRA (National Hot Rod Association), NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), and USAC (United States Auto Club) all have major league activities scheduled in and around the metropolitan Richmond, Virginia capital city area between June 1 and June 17. Beginning on June 1 and concluding on Sunday, June 4, Virginia Motorsports Park hosts its first national event, the VIRGINIA IS FOR LOVERS NHRA NATIONALS, featuring drag racing's top drivers, highlighted by the spectacular Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock divisions. On Monday June 5 and Tuesday, June 6 the racing action shifts to Paul Sawyer's Richmond International Raceway oval, celebrating its 50th season. NASCAR's SuperTruck by Craftsman Series will make its first East Coast appearance those two days at RIR in special NASCAR open test sessions preparing for the September 7 FAS MART SUPERTRUCK SHOOTOUT. Richmond action builds to a crescendo on Saturday night, June 17, when USAC's True Value Silver Crown Series and United States Formula Ford 2000 Series make their inaugural visits to Richmond

under the lights on the 3/4-mile RIR oval. When the flag falls on those races, Richmond's dateline will have appeared on national sports pages for three weeks.
