RARE 'BIRD PART OF STAR-TELEGRAM AUTOFEST

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (April 16, 1999) - Some people collect trading cards of sports stars. Others collect shot glasses. Still others collect Beanie Babies. Amos Minter has a collection as well. Part of it will be displayed April 29 - May 2 at the Star-Telegram AutoFest featuring the Pate Swap Meet at Texas Motor Speedway.

Minter's passion is Thunderbirds, model years 1955 to 1957 to be specific. He currently has 38 Thunderbirds in stock at his company which specializes in gathering, restoring and selling the rare T-Birds. He started the firm in 1969.

"When I was 12 years old I thought the 1957 Thunderbird was the most exciting car in the world," said Minter, who once worked for IBM computer operations. "I bought my first one in 1966 for $640, repainted it in my two-car garage, drove it for a year-and-a-half then sold it for more than double what I paid for it. I knew then that this was the business I wanted to be in."

Minter will display a rare white 1957 Thunderbird with a removable hardtop that includes the famed "porthole" window. The T-Bird includes the distinctive "fins" of that era on the rear quarter panels, a 312 cubic inch engine, automatic transmission and air conditioning.

The T-Bird will be for sale in the Pate Swap Meet Car Corral. The Car Corral, located on the frontstretch of the speedway, will offer a wide variety of automobiles for sale.

The Star-Telegram AutoFest will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday. The Leake Car Collectors Auction will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the concourse under the frontstretch grandstands. Legends Cars and Bandoleros will race at Lil' Texas Motor Speedway Saturday afternoon, May 1, at 4:00 p.m.
