Ever wanted to race a car in a real race series? Now is your chance. The Winnipeg Sports Car Club is planning a new entry level series in order to drum up new participants and vehicles, promote the Gimli Motor Sport Track and generally just have fun.
Basically, the proposed series is known as a spec Race Series not unlike the old Honda Michelin or new Dodge Neon series'.The difference is that this series will use older, readily available cars that cost nowhere near what a new Honda would. The basic premise is to keep all the cars identical and in stock form. Except for personal choice things like colour, this will ensure that competition is close. The drivers ability rather than his/her available resources become the key to winning.
Although promoted as a budget series, I do not want to leave the impression that you could put a car on the track for a couple of hundred dollars. Those with the know-how and connections might be able to buy and prepare a car for less than $1000. If the costs are out of reach, consider sharing a car with a friend as so many have done before. This will effectively cut your costs in half.
The first race is scheduled for June and the entry deadline is March 17, so don't delay...if you are interested in racing and never had the opportunity or just didn't think you could afford all the high tech equipment, now is your chance. Believe me, there is little else that can give you the feeling that racing does!
