Spa-Francorchamps. After today's first qualifying session for the tenth round of the Porsche-Pirelli-SuperCup in Spa-Francorchamps, Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart cancelled all further qualifying sessions, as well as the race scheduled for Sunday due to safety reasons.

Problems in the production process led to a defective compound in the racing tyres supplied by Pirelli. For this reason, several tyres showed rubber deterioration during qualifying.

Pirelli had reacted to similar problems, which appeared two weeks ago at the Budapest round and at the national Carrera Cup race on the Sachsenring, by producing a different rubber compound, which functioned well at the previous Carrera Cup round on the Nurburgring. However, the tyres delivered for the Porsche-Pirelli-SuperCup round in Spa-Francorchamps did not meet the required safety standards.

The tyres supplied for Sachsenring, Hungaroring and for Spa-Francorchamps showed considerable inconsistencies and do not match the standards of the tyres homologated by Porsche AG for one-make cup racing.
