Round Four pole position goes to Baily.

Tasmanian born, resident Queenslander Kerry Baily will start heat one of the fourth round of the Reward Insurance Australian Sports Sedan Championship from pole position later today. Nobody including Baily himself could match the time he posted yesterday in his Chev V8 powered Nissan 300ZX.

Most couldn't match their own times from the late Friday afternoon session, including series leader and defending champion Tony Ricciardello whose Alfa/Chev V8 will be alongside Baily on the front row while New Zealander Andrew Fawcett will start his Transam-spec Jaguar XKR from the inside of row two.

Saab/Chev V8 driver Darren Hossack was one of only two in the top ten to better his earlier effort. After fixing computer problems overnight, he knocked three tenths of a second off his previous best but will still be out of position four. The other to improve was another New Zealand Trans Am car. Bernie Gillon's Ford Mustang broke it tail shaft and differiental and incredibly, replacements for the unique bits were found locally in Ipswich.

But like Hossack his ninth grid position could not be improved on, although he was measured with the highest top speed (at the start/finish line) of 226 kmh, some 18 kmh faster than the best of the V8 Supercars.

The Queensland Pontiac Trans Am of Jeff Barnes and Victorian Dean Randle in the second of the Saab/Chev V8s will share the third row while Des Wall's Toyota Supra/Chev V8 is seventh after overnight ignition problems were sorted out. The Commodore/Chev V8 of Tony Wilson is eighth, and competing the top ten is Stephen Voight driving his newly acquired GT-spec Chev Monza.
