Hat-trick for Pierre Ehret in the Porsche Sports Cup at Spa
Quite successful Pierre Ehret returned from his race at Spa-Francorchamps (B). With a hat-trick in the Porsche Sports Cup the Porsche driver attracted attention again.
In the "Flamingo Resort Hotel"-Porsche 997 GT3 RSR Ehret started solo in two sprint races of the "Super Sports Cup" and as well in the endurance race of the "Porsche Sports Cup Endurance".
At Spa he drove for Farnbacher Racing. Normally Ehret races for Farnbacher Racing in the Le Mans Series. During the last round, the 1.000 KM of Nürburgring, he reached the podium.
"Spa is always a great challenge", Ehret says before the race. "More than seven kilometres long, the circuit belongs to the most difficult tracks. Everybody knows the famous Eau Rouge passage and other popular parts. I am really looking forward."
During changing weather conditions in qualifying he took pole position with more than two seconds in front of the second placed. In the first race Ehret was unbeatable, and won in front of Thomas Riethmüller the usual winner in those races.
Ehret's lap times in race two were very fast again and once more he finished ahead of his second placed opponent with more than 35 seconds. "The cup cars have a small advantage at the start compared to my RSR. But I was able to defend my position and could keep him at bay." Later Ehret headed away and finally took the win.
The 120 minutes long endurance race proceeded similar. Ehret started without a partner and was able to drive best time in qualifying on Sunday morning with about three seconds ahead of the second placed. "Everything worked perfect and the conditions on the track were brilliant", Ehret said after the race.
At the start at 14 o'clock Ehret headed away with his Porsche 997 GT3 RSR at once and was able to control the race. "We had a strategy which finally paid off !" All the pitstopps of the Farnbacher team went off without a hitch again and at 16 o'clock Ehret crossed the finish line with an impressive winning-margin of two and a half minutes.
In doing so he completed his hat-trick and was the fastest man of the weekend. "I am really happy, that everything worked so well and I would like to thank Farnbacher Racing, whose guys did a great job again."
For Ehret the race in Belgium was a good preparation for the 4th round of the Le Mans Series. The 1.000 KM of Spa will be held on 19th August and so Ehret had the chance to familiarize himself with the track. A podium finish seems to be in reach.
