Former UK Clio Cup front-runner Rick Pearson looks unlikely to contest the remaining two rounds of the Renaultsport Clio Trophy due to funding difficulties.

With the next round of the championship scheduled to take place at the Nurburgring this weekend, he may be forced to curtail his Clio V6 campaign as early as Wednesday of this week due to registration deadlines.“ ActiveShop.com, Freeparking.co.uk, Mintex and Sea France have been more than generous in their support throughout the year but we were always aware that we were running on a limited budget,” Pearson admitted.“ To be honest, the Mark Fish Motorsport crew have worked miracles to stretch it as many miles across Europe as they have.”

Despite feeling the disadvantages of a self-inflicted testing ban enforced in a bid to preserve resources, the thirty-one-year-old has two top-twenty placings to his name and was invited to Monaco as a reserve driver for the prestigious Grand-Prix supporting, double-header round of the championship earlier this year.

“ It has been a phenomenal season with a very steep learning curve but extremely valuable in my development as a driver,” he said.“ Whilst I’d love to be able to finish the season properly by competing in the last two rounds, it doesn’t look as if it’s going to happen. Instead, we have to turn our attention to preparing for an exciting campaign in 2002.”
