ANOTHER COMPETITIVE SHOWING FOR THE CALTEX RACING FORD FALCONS
The Caltex Racing Ford BA Falcons of Paul Pedersen and Angus Fogg enjoyed another competitive showing at the Manfeild Autocourse today ahead of tomorrow's three Parker ENZED New Zealand V8 Touring Car Championship races.
Angus Fogg set the ball rolling in the testing session in the morning, setting the second fastest time, with teammate Paul Pedersen less than half a second behind with the sixth fastest time.
In fact, the only downside to the day came in the afternoon's official qualifying session when the pair slipped down the overall order to ninth (Fogg) and tenth (Pedersen), despite the latter shaving 0.308 of a second off his time.
In Fogg's case the reason was a set up call, made in the knowledge that with just 0.017 of a second between himself and pace-setter John McIntyre in the morning's test session there was a very real chance that there was a pole time in the Caltex Vortex Ford Falcon.
"Obviously, we were very happy with the time this morning but the car wasn't quite there so we made some changes (to the car's suspension setup), " explained Fogg. "Unfortunately, with the hotter track conditions this afternoon the car ended up not being as good as it was this morning."
For Caltex Havoline driver Paul Pedersen the better time in the qualifying session was tempered by the fact that he was not the only driver to go faster in the official qualifying session, meaning that tomorrow he will start the first race beside teammate Fogg on the fifth row of the grid.
On the front row for the first 10 lap race on Sunday morning will be John McIntyre and championship points leader Wade Henshaw. Defending Parker ENZED champion Andy Booth will share the second row with Teretonga round winner Kayne Scott with former series champion Mark Pedersen and Paul Manuell on the third row.
This weekend's meeting at Feilding's 3.03km Manfeild Autocourse is the first for the Parker ENZED New Zealand V8 Touring Cars in the North Island since the opening round of the '04/'05 season at Pukekohe's Pukekohe Park in October last year.
Joining the Parker ENZED New Zealand V8 Touring Cars at the Manfeild meeting are the Toyota Racing Series 'wings-and-slicks' single-seaters, the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup Series cars, Formula Fords, Bridgestone Porsches, and Kumho Tyres Pre 65s.
There are three Parker ENZED New Zealand V8 Touring Car Championship races at Manfeild Autocourse tomorrow, one 10 lapper in the morning, a second 10 lapper early in the afternoon and a 16 lap top ten reverse grid final at the end of the day.
