Norm Froscher will be honored by the DRIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD panel for his tireless efforts and distinguished service in furtherance of the award over the course of almost three decades.
Froscher, a winner of the prestigious Ray Marquette Award & Bloys Britt Award (which is commemorated at Daytona International Speedway) and NHRA media awards, is a freelance magazine writer and a past president of the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Assn., and the Florida Sports Writers Assn.
The 72-year old, who resides in Florida, has a media center named after him at the Gainesville Raceway and also covers thoroughbred horse racing. He joined the panel in 1975, when it had only 10 voting members, continuing in that capacity until 1993.Since then he's been an advisor, publicist and all-around counselor of the DRIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD.
He joins Chris Economaki, the only original voting member of the panel, as the second to be recognized for his service to the unique driver honor.
When he learned of the recognition he was surprised. "The Driver of the Year has meant very much to me through the years, ever since I was recommended for the panel be the late Ray Marquette in 1975. It has been very rewarding to first help determine and then be associated with the 'best of the best' in auto racing, along with Barry Schmoyer and the panel," he said.
As a token of esteem of the panel Froscher will be presented a Maurice Lacroix Swiss wristwatch in connection with a NHRA event.
Recently SPEED Channel announced that it had become the official presenter of the award. SPEED Channel can be seen by 60 million homes in North America.
Maurice Lacroix Swiss Watches is the official watch of the DRIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD and also presents a wristwatch to the quarterly and annual winners.
President of the DRIVER OF THE YEAR Foundation is Barry Schmoyer, businessman and sportsman of Sarasota, Florida.Further information on the award may be obtained from the DRIVER OF THE YEAR Foundation, PO Box 49827, Sarasota, FL34230 or from (941) 953-6209.
