"I will set some new targets for next season!"
Norbert Siedler is looking back to a challenging double programme, as his Carrera GT3 that he drove in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and his Tatuus-Honda S.2000 Formula Master car are two completely different animals. At the end the former F3000 champion achieved top results in both categories, but he also admits that it is time now to set some new targets for 2009...
Q: It was a tough season with a very difficult combination of two race categories but all in all you have pretty much achieved your goals that you set out to achieve for the whole year...
NS: "Yes, I think so, too, even if I didn't manage to get on the podium the Supecup yet. I was 4th in Spa and also quite strong at Silverstone and another satisfaction was my 3rd fastest lap time in the prestigious Monaco race."
Frage: ...and how difficult was it to perform in Formula Master?
NS: "I achieved two podiums there and I was leading the race in Brands Hatch until somebody kicked my off the track. I think I was still one of the quickest drivers in Formula Master, but fairly speaking it didn't really help my acclimatisation in the Porsche."
Frage: Looking back to many successful years of formula racing you were always immediately fast in every kind of car. So what do you think about your pure speed and potentials in the Carrera GT3?
NS: "My one and only handicap is experience. I was lucky enough to have one of the strongest team mates, who is just to win the Carrera Cup and who claimed four pole positions in the Supercup. My gap was approximately three tenth in qualifying and, considering my amount of testing kilometers on new tyres, this should be a gap that I can close over the winter."
Frage: Your are planning to completely focus on sportscar racing in 2009?
NS: "Yes, I will set some new targets for the next season, as there are quite a few goals that I can still achieve in motorsport. Sportscar racing offers a wide range of possibilities, not only in the Supercup but also in endurance racing in Europe and in the United States. If I had the choice I would like to combine the Supercup with racing an RSR in one of the Le Mans Series. Anyway, I will continue to work hard and then we will see what the future brings."
Thanks and good luck!
