Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, August 17 American David Nguyen graduated at the top of his class at the Bridgestone Racing Academy competing against aspiring professional race car drivers. He won one of the two practice races and set the fastest overall time among the students. All were driving identical Reynard Formula Ford 2000 cars.

Nguyen, who is from Dale City, Virginia, began racing Yamaha go karts in 1996 and won the 1997 Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series championship. Presently he leads the Maryland Divisional Series and Monrovia Club championships with 5 wins in the first 9 races. He is seeking to establish corporate partnerships for the move up to formula cars next season.
