FORT WORTH-DALLAS (April 25, 2001) - Tommy Clowers may borrow a sports term - "status day-to-day" -- to describe his chances of competing in Saturday night's Young Chevrolet AirMX Challenge, presented by KZPS, freestyle motocross competition at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.
Clowers is one of the leading freestyle motocross riders in the world. He suffered a broken collarbone a month ago while attempting to clear a bar in the AirMX Challenge Step Up competition at Tucson, Ariz. Step Up is a motorcycle high jump contest.
AirMX officials have indicated that Clowers ordered his motorcycle shipped to Fort Worth for Saturday's program. He missed last weekend's AirMX Challenge event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The AirMX Challenge is the first national freestyle competition to offer a year-long point fund.
"Tommy Clowers is a leader and innovator in freestyle motocross," said Eddie Gossage, speedway general manager. "We know that if there is any way he can perform for the fans Saturday night, he will. It will be a great program and will be even better if Tommy can ride."
Clifford Adoptante, "The Flyin' Hawaiian," will be looking for his third AirMX victory of the season in Texas. Other leading freestyle artists expected include Kris Rourke, Kenny Bartram, Trevor Vines, Tyler Evans, Doug Parsons and the "Metal Mulisha" riders including Ronnie Faisst. Brian Deegan, leader of the "Metal Mulisha" who has been sidelined since a February accident, will be present to consult the course designers and greet the fans Saturday.
Tickets for the Young Chevrolet AirMX Challenge, presented by KZPS, are available at the speedway ticket office, by calling (817) 215-8500, online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com and at Ticketmaster locations.
