THE GOETERS BROTHERS WIN THE FIRST RACE OF THE MTC by CAJAL

In an exciting finale, Patrick and Eduardo Goeters defeated defending champion Freddy Tame Jr. and his teammate Carlos Contreras to win the first race of the 10-race-series Mexican Touring Championship, class B for 2 litre engined cars, also known as the Neon Cup because only Chrysler Neons participate in it. The race was held in the 4 km. circuit of the "Hermanos Rodríguez" race track run counterclockwise (that means the famous Peraltada corner at the end of the 1 km. straight and not before it as usual.

Pole was hard earned by the team of Miguel Reyes and Alex Oros, but since the start of the 70 lap race Miguel was shadowed all the time by Freddy Tame Jr., and sometimes lost first place to him in a duel that lasted til the first yellow flag was shown on lap 21. This allowed the Patrick Goeters to close and make it a three way fight for the lead which endured through 4 more caution periods and the pit stops around lap 35 to change drivers and refuel.

Contreras and Eduardo Goeters took up the fight but Oros was left behind in a close third place. The leading twosome changed places severaltimes and in lap 69 Contreras took the lead at the entrance to the Peraltada only to have Goeters slipstream and take him at the exit, and this changeof lead was the last one since Eduardo kept his cool and won by only .107 of a second with a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, 8 seconds and 728 thousandths. A great race that shows Tame that he will not have an easy time defending his championship.
