Macleod scores first win. MexicO

Scotsman Rod Macleod (8) and his British engineer Steve Miller planned a strategy that paid off in the best way possible; their first win in the ILP series. Rod had qualified third fastest on Friday but for Saturday he was only fifth fastest thus starting on Sunday's race in fourth place, which he improved on the first lap closing it in third and a lap later he was second behind pole sitter Brazilian Oswaldo Negri.

But it was Rod's teammate Mariano Gonzalez (19) who closed the first lap as leader, after having passes Negri and Waldemar Coronas (43) at the end of the main straight, only to abandon the race a few seconds later when a sensor in his engine malfunctioned, while the other member of team Argentina Motorsport, Mauro Fartuszek (21) was touched by Coronas and sent of the track and the race.

Coronas was able to make it to his pit for repairs but came back three laps down. Meanwhile Negri has grabbed the lead and held it until lap 21, after which Macleod went for the pass finishing 6.486 seconds ahead of the Brazilian, establishing the fastest lap of the race with 1:15.485.

The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez track record was broken since Friday by several drivers, but it was Negri who established the best time of the weekend with 1:14.181, more than 1.5 seconds faster that the previous record which belonged to the F3000.
