Matt Brabham has flown to the United Kingdom for the official Memorial Service to be held in honour of his grandfather, Sir Jack Brabham, to be held in the Silverstone Wing tonight Australian time (Friday, October 24).

The event has been put together for motor racing fans and the motorsport industry to pay tribute to one of the most iconic innovators and driving talents the world has seen, Sir Jack Brabham following his passing in May this year in Australia.

Open to the public, they will get the chance to view up close a vast collection of Brabham Formula 1 cars and other racing cars that became synonymous with Sir Jack Brabham, including the BT20 that he took to the 1966 World Championship - his third and final - and the BT33 in which he won the 1970 South African Grand Prix - his final Grand Prix win.

Matt will be joined by father Geoff, along with the remainder of the Brabham clan, including his uncle, David - who has put the Memorial together in association with the BRDC.

Dignitaries attending

Matt and Geoff will be participants in the event, along with many motor racing dignitaries that will be interviewed about their association and rivalries with Sir Jack. They include Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Frank Williams, Sir Jackie Stewart, John Surtees, Tony Brooks and Nick Goozee, along with renowned F1 designer, Gordon Murray among others.

The 20-year-old Florida-based Matt represents the future torchbearers of the Brabham dynasty. He, along with cousin Sam, are pursuing their own career in international motorsport.

Matt is currently finalising his 2015 plans.

The Sir Jack Brabham Memorial at the Silverstone Wing is raising money for Kidney Research UK. The Australian equivalent was very close to Sir Jack and donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/SirJackBrabham .

Said Matt: “This is an event that our family has been working up to for a long time,” said Matt. “Pop still has so much revere the world over that to allow some of his closest friends and biggest rivals the chance to honour him in this way will create something very memorable.

“David (Brabham) has done a brilliant job with the BRDC to get so many of Pop’s cars to Silverstone - a place that was very special to him.

“It also has a great cause attached to it in Kidney Research UK - I’ve seen first hand with Pop as to how Kidney disease can affect your life.

“Dad and I will cherish the opportunity to catch up with so many of the fans that want to pay their respects and also to his friends and foes - it will be a special day - one that I will remember forever.”
