LANGLEY, BC - May 23 2001: It was an up and down weekend for British Columbian driver Josh Beaulieu in the opening Canadian Formula Ford race of the season. Racing at Mosport International Raceway's Trans-Am event this past weekend, he was plagued by mechanical problems and was forced to retire on lap 2 of the race with an expired fuel pump.

Beaulieu faced a tough task in mastering the challenging 4km circuit, while at the same time learning the nuances of his Dowco.com-sponsored Vector-Ford. He qualified an impressive 4th in the 20-car field, despite being slowed by carburetor problems.

"It was a great learning experience, even considering our back luck this weekend," said Beaulieu. "The track is fantastic once you get a rhythm going. The speed of it was something I had to get used to, and by the end of the weekend we were at the front of the grid. I think we'll be in good shape for next race."

The next Canadian Formula Ford event is June 8-10, with the Air Canada Formula 1 Grand Prix in Montreal. The entire series will be aired on CTV SportsNet in the fall.

Josh Beaulieu is a young rising talent in Canadian racing whose career began only in 1999. Having been credited with 17 Bridgestone/Firestone Formula 2000 wins in 31 starts, and a successful testing stint in England, he is making his mark as part of the next generation of Canada's top race drivers.
