Brands Hatch, England - 17th & 18th June, 2000
First year racer, Jon Lanceley demonstrated his potential with PA Motorsport during the Avon Junior Formula Ford Championship at Brands Hatch by posting a time only four tenths of a second shy of pole position. On his debut with the team and their ex-works Van Diemen RF99Z, former karter Lanceley took a determined Top Ten position on the grid for the double-header round on Kent's famous Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.
Lanceley, who drove the car for the first time the previous day, was holding down a place on the front row for the majority of the session, until a quick spin sent him into the pits for the PA Motorsport team to check the car. Once he rejoined the track, traffic and yellow flags would mean that he eventually ended the session in a respectable ninth place. This was his best performance to date, and marked a change in fortunes for the young Gloucestershire driver after splitting with his former team. =20 PA Motorsport Team Principal, Peter Alexander, praised the efforts of his promising new star: "Jon has shown enormous potential this weekend, and I know he's only going to get better as the season continues. This outing really marks his starting point in the championship, due to the problems he had with his previous team. I think he's going to be a podium contender in the very near future." "Considering this was his first outing in a new car, with a new team, and at a track that he's not familiar with, I think he has done an excellent job. His approach is very level headed, he fits in well with the team, and he's obviously got the speed to take himself and PA Motorsport to the front. It must be remembered that this is our first outing with this car, and our first time in the Junior Formula Ford Championship as well, so we expect to develop with Jon in the series."
Lanceley is now meeting with sponsors to ensure he can continue to make an impression with PA Motorsport for the remainder of the 2000 season.
