Salvatore Pagano's terrible misconduct ruined Luca Casadei's race. Team Vomero's driver, who was overtaken by Luca during the first few laps, hit the young driver from behind and made him do 180 spin. The car's contact with the kerb and the sand made Luca "take off" and his car flipped over 4 times. Fortunately, Luca wasn't injured but the car's chassis was completely destroyed.

Before this, Casadei had to deal with yet another contact right at the start of the race. Luca was tenth on the starting grid but at the green light, he immediately took off and gained three positions. Unfortunately ,his team-mate Leonida Bellini hit him and Luca fell back to 14th place. Casadei wasn't discouraged and started his climb again but even this was hindered during the fourth lap.

Luca Casadei

"Luckily, I wasn't hurt during this terrible accident. I got out of the car with only a few sprains. I'm sure that this accident looked spectacular from the spectator's point of view but it's very different if you are inside the car. For 4 times,I saw everything upside down. It was a serious accident with no terrible consequences for me. I am however very disappointed because my car was perfect thanks to all of the team's hard work. I knew that the car was going to allow me to be in the top positions."

Giovanni Minardi, Manager

"I wanted to be at the Varano race because I know what Luca's worth and I knew that he was able to run a great race this weekend. Unfortunately, things didn't turn out this way and it surely wasn't Luca's fault. Luca was hit twice by behind, by 2 drivers who are 15 years older than him and who should be smart enough to avoid this kind of misconduct. Obviously years of experience don't always teach you a lesson. Regardless of this, we can be satisfied of one thing: although Luca Casadei has only participated in 2 of the Renault Clio Cup races this season, he has already proven his technical talent and speed to many. I guess an 18 year old who goes really fast bothers a few drivers who for numerous years have been participating in this category."
