Trio Announces Potential Development of Motorsports Facility

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 11, 1996) -- Officials at International Speedway Corporation (ISC) today announced that they have begun consideration of the feasibility of developing a new motorsports facility in the Chicago area.

Although discussions are preliminary and no agreement has been reached, the proposed facility being considered would be a combined venture between ISC, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation and Mr. John Menard.

One of the sites being considered is a section of the DuPage Airport, which a private study determined could accommodate a 1.5-mile closed track and related parking facilities.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation, through an affiliate, IMS Events, Inc., built the one-mile Walt Disney World Speedway outside Orlando, Fla., where it promotes two events, the Indy 200 at Walt Disney World (Indy Racing League) and a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the home of the famed Indianapolis 500.

John Menard is the sole owner of Menard, Inc., a midwest regional chain of lumber and home improvement stores based in Eau Claire, Wis. The 120-store chain had fiscal 1995 sales of more than $2.5 billion. Involved since 1979 in Indianapolis-style racing, Menard also owns Team Menard, an IRL team based in Indianapolis.

ISC operates Daytona International Speedway, home of the Daytona 500; MRN Radio, the nation's largest independent sports radio network; and the recently-opened DAYTONA USA motorsports attraction in Daytona Beach, Fla.; Darlington Raceway in Darlington, S.C.; Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Ala.; and Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park. The Corporation also owns 50 percent of Watkins Glen International in upstate New York. -- 30 -- MEDIA CONTACTS: ISC Public Relations Dept., (904) 947-6782
