Ken Look toppled Paul Poon in final minute of qualifying

CHeong's Speed driver Ken Look took pole position in the final minute of the HTCC Super Production qualifying session today after a great battle with China Dragon Racing's Paul Poon.

Ken Look had set an initial fastest time early in the session, but Paul Poon was hit with tyre trouble and had to pit. The China Dragon Racing mechanics managed to turn him around quickly, after his out lap, he set a lap that was just a mere 0.014 seconds faster than Kenneth.

'I had a small accident at T14 and that destroyed my front tyres, so I came in to have them changed. After that I did my quickest time.' Did he have any tyre problems? 'No, my tyres were fine. I was just not able to do a quicker time today.'

Kenneth replied with 3 consecutive quick laps in the 1min52.7, 1min52.6 and 1min52.5 before finally toppling Paul with a 1min52.317 in the final minute of the session. 'I saw that I was P1 from my pit board, so I slowed down a little as there was no need to push anymore. Then I saw that I was second and so I had to start pushing again, but everything has already cooled - the hot weather also means times are slower than yesterday - so I had to slowly build myself and the car up, finally I was able to set the time.'

Third place once again went to Rolly Sham. He set a time of 1min 52.914. But it seems unlikely that the race will go to anyone other than Kenneth and Paul.
