A great race we lived in the fifth presentation of the T.C. 2000 in Resistencia, Chaco in the north of Argentina.
On saturday Guillermo Ortelli (Honda Civic) made the fastest lap like two weeks ago in Bahía Blanca. Second finished Furlán (Mitsubishi Lancer) who in all the qualifies of the year finished always in the first two positions.
Norberto Fontana, leader of the championship until this race, finished in third with the Toyota Corolla.
On sunday dawned cloudy and with posibilities of rain.
In the first series Ortelli won without problems, followed by Fontana (Toyota) and Silva (Honda) in the first three positions.
Furlán won with convenience the second series. The champion Ponce de León (Ford Focus) finished second and García (Ford Escort) in third. Martínez (Toyota Corolla) who finished second in the track was penalised with 10 seconds because of a ¨jump sart¨. After the two series Ortelli and Furlán showed like the candidates for the victory in the final race.
When just rest five for the begining, the rain start follow in the circuit. All the competitors started with wet tyres, but Ortelli, Tuero and the two Ford Focus of Ponce de León and Hernández did with slick. A risky move for them.
Furlán took the first position in the start but he went out of the track. Ortelli lost four positions in the move because of the slick tyres. Ponce de León was leading in the first lap but Silva passed him a couple of laps later. Tuero, second in the championship, had a very difficult weekend with problems in his Honda. He finally quit the race. There were a lot of changes in the positions due to the conditions in the track.
Ortelli was making a fanstastic job in slicks tyres. In lap eight he was second trying to pass his team mate Silva.
Daniel Cingolani (Honda) who started eighth was in fight with Furlán for the third position.
After ten laps Silva keep leading near followed by Cingolani who passed Furlán. Ortelli was fourth after a little mistake. Mariano Altuna (Honda) quit the race with electrics problems when he was behind in the positions.
Cingolani passed Silva that was with a failure in his Honda. Also passed him Furlán, Yanantuoni (started in last place, he was third!) and Ortelli.
Fontana that was in eighth position quit the race because of problems in the engine of the Toyota Corolla.
Fontana`s car was in a bad place which motivated the entrance of the pace car for some laps.
The rain started to be more intense. Ortelli decided to change his slicks tyres for wets tyres.
With twenty laps disputed Cingolani was leading followed by Furlán, Yanantuoni, Ponce de León and Martínez in the first five positions. Fineschi (Honda) abandoned when was in an important fourth position.
In the restart Furlán passed Cingolani, then Cingolani passed Furlán and Furlán passed him again. Fantastic actuation of two experimentes drivers.
In the fight for the third place Martínez, who started sixteen, passed Yanantuoni and Ponce de León.
Five laps later Cingolani could passed Furlán again. Change number eight for the first place.
It was clear that the race will finish by time (49 laps or 1 hour).
The two Honda Racing drivers were in recuperation, Silva was fifth and Ortelli was sixth.
Unfortunatelly for Silva, went out the track and lost all posibilities for a good result in his land, Resistencia.
When rest just 15 minutes of race, Ortelli passed Yanantuoni for the fourth place. Hernández did the same with his team mate Ponce de León in fight for the seventh position. Good result for Mariano Bainotti in his second race with the Mitsubishi finished eighth.
Finally and after one hour of hard competition, Daniel Cingolani won with the Honda Civic of the ProRacing Team. The last victory of Cingolani in T.C. 2000 was in September of 2000 season in Buenos Aires with a Ford. That year he obtained the title of the category.
After this race Furlán is leading the championship with 45 points, followed by Fontana with 40.
